Realme has previously stated that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 would power the GT 2 Pro, and now Xiaomi’s Founder and CEO, Mr. Lei Jun, has confirmed that Qualcomm’s recently announced flagship chip will power the Xiaomi 12.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU, which was unveiled at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Tech Summit, will be used in a number of high-end Android handsets next year.
Mr. Jun didn’t say much about the Xiaomi 12, but he did say that the series “will be the world’s first smartphones” to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC.
While Mr. Jun claims that the Xiaomi 12 series will be the world’s first to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, this is unlikely given Motorola’s announcement of a December 9 event to unveil the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-powered Edge X30, unless Xiaomi is already planning to unveil the company’s next-gen devices before next Thursday.
Without going into specifics, OnePlus, Oppo, and iQOO have also announced that Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-powered smartphones will be released. ZTE stated it will release an Axon series smartphone using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 next year, while nubia said it will use the new flagship CPU in its Z series.
Rumors on Xiaomi 12 series
Xiaomi is set to release the 12 series on December 12th, and the vanilla version’s back panel has surfaced online, revealing more about the design. A triple-camera arrangement will be installed on the island, with one large hole for the main cameraman and two other cameras below it. They’ll be right next to the flash and a microphone.
