With the launch of a new flagship lineup, Xiaomi is bringing the year to a close on a high note. The Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro, and Xiaomi 12X were formally unveiled today at a ceremony in China, succeeding the Mi 11 series from last year and will compete against the incoming 2022 flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S22 and OnePlus 10. The new phones have a quicker SoC, better displays, faster-charging speeds, improved camera technology, and more than their predecessors.
Of the three, the Xiaomi 12 Pro is the most powerful. It has a 6.78-inch AMOLED LTPO QHD+ display with a refresh rate of 120Hz, a touch sampling rate of 480Hz, and compatibility with Dolby Vision. It also includes Goodix’s unique In-display Light Sensor, which allows the phone to automatically change the display color temperature for a comfortable viewing experience in various lighting circumstances.
The Xiaomi 12 is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, as well as up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 flash storage.
The phone’s triple camera arrangement on the back has a 50MP Sony IMX707 primary sensor, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a 50MP telephoto lens with up to 2x optical zoom. A 32MP selfie camera is housed inside the hole-punch cutout on the front of the phone. There’s also CyberFocus, an AI-powered video recording function that, according to the business, “will not lose focus” and “continuously monitor people no matter how they move.”
The phone has four stereo speakers, two of which are woofers and two of which are tweeters, for audio. This one-of-a-kind configuration, according to Xiaomi, produces deeper bass and clearer treble. The phone also boasts a 2900mm2 vapor chamber, which allows users to play graphics-intensive games for long periods of time without experiencing thermal throttling.
A 4,600mAh battery powers the Xiaomi 12 Pro and supports up to 120W fast wired charging and 50W fast wireless charging. On the software side, the phone runs MIUI 13, Xiaomi’s most recent custom skin.
The Xiaomi 12 is a middle-of-the-road device. Many of the important features of the Pro model are retained but in a smaller package. It has a 6.28-inch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz and support for Dolby Vision. The vanilla version is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, the same as its bigger brother. In comparison to the Xiaomi Pro, the Xiaomi 12 has a different camera arrangement. A 50MP IMX766 primary sensor, a 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a macro lens are included. A 4,500mAh battery powers the Xiaomi 12 and is charged using a 67W rapid wired charger. Wireless charging up to 50W and reverse wireless charging up to 10W are also supported.
In most ways, the Xiaomi 12X is identical to the vanilla version, with the exception that it is powered by the Snapdragon 870 SoC.
