Samsung is already hard at work on the Galaxy A36, the anticipated successor to the Galaxy A35 that debuted in March. Recently, a prototype of the A36 made waves on Geekbench, revealing that Samsung is testing the device with Android 15.
Google launched this version for its Pixel devices just yesterday, while Samsung plans to roll it out next year alongside the Galaxy S25 family in January. This suggests that the Galaxy A36 will likely debut after that, especially if it runs Android 15 right from the start, as these testing results hint.
With the recent launch of the budget-friendly Galaxy A16 5G, which promises six major Android updates, we can expect the same commitment for the A36. If it ships with Android 15 from day one, that means it could potentially receive updates all the way to Android 21!
Under the hood, the Galaxy A36 will run on either the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 or the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, depending on the GPU. The prototype tested today featured 6GB of RAM, but there may be additional options available at launch. Notably, while the Galaxy A35 used Samsung’s Exynos 1380 SoC, the A36 will be making a switch to a different supplier for its chipset, which adds an interesting twist to its development.
