Samsung released a trio of high-priced flagships in 2020, just weeks before the COVID-19 epidemic placed the world under lockdown, which could have been the worst time. In turn, the Galaxy S20 series did poorly, but Samsung’s year was saved by the late arrival of the Galaxy S20 FE, which was extremely popular and sold over 10 million copies.
Samsung reported that the Galaxy S20 FE sold over 10 million copies between Q4 2020 and just over a year later in an email to 9to5Google. Samsung stated that this is one of the company’s best-selling Galaxy smartphones over the past year.
“Since its launch in Q4 2020, Galaxy S20 FE sold 10 million units in just over a year, making it one of Samsung’s best-selling Galaxy smartphones over the past year.“
Samsung’s official statement sent to 9to5Google
The Galaxy S20 FE was a smash at US carriers and one of the most popular handsets for a period of time right after the introduction, as we reported last year, and carrier sales seemed to mirror that success. Samsung’s Galaxy S21 series was claimed to have sold roughly 13.5 million handsets in total over the summer.
Putting that number in context, the Galaxy S21 FE’s introduction this week starts to make a lot more sense. With the Galaxy S21 FE, many first impressions of the phone raise questions about how much it is worth when compared to other devices such as the $799 (but frequently reduced) Galaxy S21 and especially the Pixel 6, which starts at $599.
