The iPhone SE is officially gone, replaced by the iPhone 16e, a new member of the iPhone 16 lineup. Apple dropped the SE branding to avoid it being seen as a lesser model. The “e” likely stands for “economical,” though pricing in the EU is still notably high.

The iPhone 16e is powered by the new A18 chip, offering significant performance improvements over its predecessor. It also supports Apple Intelligence, a feature missing in the iPhone 14. This gives the 16e better performance and more AI-powered features, which makes it a great choice for budget-conscious users.
In terms of the camera, the iPhone 16e features a single 48 MP “2-in-1 camera system.” While it lacks a second rear camera, it does offer lossless 2x zoom. The 6.1-inch “Super Retina XDR” OLED display is vibrant, protected by Ceramic Shield, and offers excellent durability.
Apple claims the iPhone 16e offers the best battery life ever for a 6.1-inch iPhone. It lasts six hours longer than the iPhone 11 and up to 12 hours longer than the iPhone SE. That means you can enjoy more screen time without constantly reaching for the charger.
The iPhone 16e also includes Face ID, USB-C, and iOS 18 with the full suite of Apple Intelligence features. It introduces Apple’s first in-house developed modem, the C1, ensuring better connectivity.
Additionally, the iPhone 16e supports satellite connectivity for Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, Messages, and Find My via Satellite, ensuring you stay connected even in remote areas.
It’s available in two colors: white and black. Pre-orders start February 21, with a release date of February 28. Pricing starts at $599 for 128GB, $699 for 256GB, and $899 for 512GB. Prices are higher in the EU.
