This year’s iPhone design will see significant changes. The iPhone 17 Air will feature a new visor-style camera island, with a larger version on the Pro and Pro Max models (the standard iPhone 17 will retain the older design). Apple may also update the materials used for the four models and boost wired charging speeds.

The iPhone 17 Air, replacing the Plus, will feature a titanium frame instead of the aluminum used on its predecessor. Analyst Jeff Pu from GF Securities reports that titanium, although heavier and costlier, offers better strength, making it ideal for the 5.5mm-thin Air. Earlier, Ming-Chi Kuo suggested the Air may use a mix of titanium and aluminum, which would balance cost, weight, and strength.
For the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, aluminum frames are expected, a shift from the previous Pro models’ titanium (and stainless steel before that). However, some reports dispute this, suggesting the Pros may retain titanium. One possible reason for the change is that aluminum is more eco-friendly with a lower carbon footprint, which aligns with Apple’s goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2030.
Regarding charging, Apple’s iPhone 16 series topped out at around 30W, but for 2025, the company aims to increase the charging speed to 35W for all models. While a modest upgrade, it will be a welcome change as iPhones have historically had slower charging speeds compared to rivals like Samsung and Google, who offer faster charging solutions.
