This summer, Gal Gadot is physically scaling new heights in action. The actors of Heart of Stone debuted a new clip at the Tudum: Global Fan Event in Brazil. It shows the star and producer fighting thousands of feet in the air after jumping over a snowy rock.
In the next blockbuster film directed by Tom Harper (Peaky Blinders, Wild Rose), Gadot portrays secret agent Rachel Stone. Stone, however, is not your typical agent; she is a part of the Charter, an elite team of enigmatic spies. They are referred to in the trailer as “the most highly trained agents — no political leanings, no national allegiances — working together to keep peace in a turbulent world.” To accomplish their lofty goals, those agents rely on a unique resource known as the Heart.
According to Parker, Rachel Stone’s MI6 counterpart, “If you own the Heart, you own the world,” as stated in the teaser by Jamie Dornan. To Keya Dhawan (Alia Bhatt), whose ambition to locate and own the Heart endangers the equilibrium of the entire world, that sounds like a plan.
What’s ‘The Heart’ in Heart of Stone?
The Heart is the most powerful AI in the world, capable of tracking anyone’s complete online history and using that information to forecast what they may do in the future. However, it goes beyond simply anticipating your future meal plans or how many episodes of Queen Charlotte you’ll watch in one sitting. The Heart can offer guidance on how to handle potential threats to the world and even provide odds on how likely it is that they will be defeated.
The casts
Gadot stars opposite Dornan as MI6 agent Parker and Alia Bhatt as hacker Keya Dhawan. The cast also includes Sophie Okonedo, Army of the Dead’s Matthias Schweighöfer, Jing Lusi, and Paul Ready.
Having played a superhero goddess in Wonder Woman and a sleek heist queen in Red Notice, Gadot felt strongly that the character of Rachel Stone should be more grounded. “It was really important to me that Rachel be a character who can fight, but I also wanted her to be able to use her brain, intuition, and emotions,” she told Netflix. “She doesn’t just run in, guns blazing. She thinks about how she’s affecting people and situations. I choose roles that show that women can be beautiful and strong, and none of this is mutually exclusive.”
The Heart of Stone will stream on Netflix on Aug. 11.
