BDO: PATULOY na pinag-iingat ang publiko laban sa tinatawag na “vishing” o voice phishing scam na kadalasang tumatarget ng mga bank depositor o online bank account client para nakawin ang kanilang pinaghirapang pera.

Ang vishing ay isang modus ng scam kung saan ang scammer ay tumatawag upang makumbinsi ang kanilang nabiktima na magbigay ng sensitibong impormasyon tulad ng bank account details. Kapag nakuha na ang nasabing impormasyon, dito na maaaring nakawin ng scammer ang laman ng bank account ng biktima.

BDO: Mga Karaniwang Modus ng Vishing Scammers

  1. Magpapanggap ang scammer bilang representante ng gobyerno o bangko, tatawag o magpapadala ng text para magpatuloy ang biktima sa pagtawag.
  2. Gagamitin ng scammer ang impormasyon tungkol sa credit card o bank account ng biktima para magmukhang lehitimo. Maaaring makuha ito mula sa mga dokumentong hindi maayos na itinapon o mula sa mga post ng biktima sa social media. Minsan, sumasali pa sila sa mga “credit card o bank account groups” online para maghanap ng target.  
  3. Gumagamit ang mga scammer ng pananakot o mabilis na pananalita, tulad ng “na-hack ang iyong account,” “may problema sa account mo,” o “Congrats! Nanalo ka ng…” para makumbinsi ang biktima. “Special Offer! Effective only today!,” o inaatasan ang biktima na i-activate ang isang offer sa ATM kapalit ng isang reward.  
  4. Habang tumatagal ang usapan, tumataas din ang posibilidad na makumbinsi ng scammer ang biktima. Kapag iniisip ng biktima na lehitimo ang tawag, madalas nilang sundin ang mga utos ng scammer, tulad ng pagbibigay ng CVV, username, password, OTP, o pag-click sa link.

Karaniwan sa mga scammer ang pagmamadali ng biktima na umaksyon habang kausap sila sa telepono. Dahil dito, maaaring mataranta ang biktima at sumunod sa mga ibibigay na utos ng scammer.

Nagpaalala ang BDO sa publiko na maging mahinahon kung makakatanggap ng text o tawag mula sa hindi rehistradong numero. Kahit pa alam ng scammer ang iyong numero, pangalan, at trabaho, huwag agad maniwala o sundin ang mga utos nito. Iwasang magpatuloy sa tawag at tawagan na lang ang official customer service hotline.

Ayon sa BDO, kapag nalamang peke ang tawag, i-block agad ang numero at i-report sa kanilang Customer Contact Center.
