Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is gearing up to launch a new SE later this year, alongside refreshed versions of the Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3. If today’s rumors are anything to go by, 2025 will be a big year for Apple Watch updates.
New Apple Watch SE
Gurman doesn’t reveal much about the upcoming Apple Watch SE, except that it will have a “new look.”
The current Watch SE, launched in 2020, is based on the 2018 Apple Watch Series 4 design. This new model might take inspiration from the 2021 Apple Watch Series 7—or Apple could surprise us with an entirely fresh design.
Previously, Gurman mentioned that Apple is considering a plastic body for the Apple Watch SE. If that’s the case, we might see a lineup of fun and vibrant color options. Either way, if you’re thinking about getting an Apple Watch SE, it’s worth waiting for this refreshed model, which is expected to arrive later this year.
Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3
The higher-end Apple Watches likely won’t see any major design changes, according to Gurman, but there’s still plenty to look forward to.
The Apple Watch Ultra 3 will gain satellite connectivity and 5G RedCap, expanding connectivity options. Series 11 and Ultra 3 will include blood pressure detection, alerting users to potential hypertension without providing exact readings.
This feature was delayed from the Series 10 due to design challenges but should finally debut this year. Gurman also hints at an AI coaching service, a revamped health app, and AirPods with heart rate monitoring, though their release dates remain unclear.
Summary
If these rumors pan out, the company could refresh its entire Watch series lineup this year—a move we haven’t seen since 2022, when the SE 2, Series 8, and original Ultra debuted.
2024 fell short, with no Ultra 3 and only a black titanium Ultra 2, while the new SE never arrived. Hopefully, 2025 delivers on all fronts.
