Starting next month, your Apple ID will be renamed to ‘Apple Account.’ With the launch of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia this fall, you’ll see this new term across all Apple products and services.
Apple IDs Rebranded as ‘Apple Account’ This Fall
Once the new OS versions roll out this fall, the term ‘Apple ID’ will be replaced by ‘Apple Account.’
From Apple Newsroom:
With the releases of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and watchOS 11, Apple ID is renamed to Apple Account for a consistent sign-in experience across Apple services and devices, and relies on a user’s existing credentials.
Aside from the name change, there won’t be any functional changes to Apple IDs.
Just like before, your Apple Account will be the account you use to sign in to Apple services. The current site explains it as, “An Apple ID is the personal account you use to access services like the App Store, iCloud, Messages, FaceTime, and more. It includes your sign-in details along with your contact, payment, and security information used across Apple services.”
Clarifying Terms to Prevent Confusion and Security Issues
This rebranding might cause some confusion at first, which is normal with a big change like this.
Remember, ‘Apple Account’ in iOS 18 and other materials is just the new name for Apple ID. Likewise, you can replace any old references to ‘Apple ID’ with ‘Apple Account.’
Since Apple IDs are crucial for accessing sensitive and secure information, it’s important to get the terminology right. Be aware that phishing schemes might try to exploit any confusion during this transition.
If you’re the go-to person in your family or friend group for Apple news and updates, it might be a good idea to let them know about this change.
