Despite all the hype, the iPhone 16 still hasn’t rolled out Apple Intelligence features—yet. That’s set to change on October 28th with the release of iOS 18.1, according to Mark Gurman in today’s Power On newsletter.
The update will introduce AI-powered notification summaries, and while that’s the only example Gurman highlights, the iOS 18.1 beta hints at more. Expect some Siri upgrades, like better understanding when you fumble your words, plus new writing tools and a rainbow-colored glowing edge graphic when you summon Siri on your device.
Apple Intelligence currently only runs on the iPhone 15 Pro and newer models, but it’s also been available in beta for Macs and iPads with Apple silicon chips (M1 and later). So, even if you don’t have the latest iPhone, you might still get a chance to try it out. There’s also talk that the next iPhone SE will support these features.
However, some of the standout Apple Intelligence features are still a little further out. For example, Siri’s ability to carry out tasks across multiple apps using your context hasn’t shown up in the betas yet—it’s rumored to arrive around March next year. Other features, like Apple’s Image Playground and Genmoji, could be available as soon as December.
