Xiaomi just pulled off a major feat by overtaking Apple to become the world’s second-largest smartphone brand in August 2024! That’s right—it’s the first time Xiaomi has claimed this position since 2021, with Samsung still reigning as the top brand.
According to the latest figures from Counterpoint Research, Xiaomi surpassed Apple in monthly sales volume. While both brands experienced their usual seasonal sales dip (not surprising for this time of year), Apple’s decline gave Xiaomi the perfect opportunity to slip into that coveted second place.
So, how did Xiaomi pull this off? It all comes down to some smart strategies. Instead of bombarding the market with a ton of different models, they focused on creating standout devices in each price range. This approach allowed them to fine-tune their offerings and ensure there’s something solid for every budget.
And it’s not just their budget-friendly options like the Redmi 13 and Note 13 that are making waves. Xiaomi has also been making a splash in the premium market with their foldable and “Ultra” devices. These higher-end phones are gaining traction, especially in regions like India, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
Oh, and we can’t overlook that part of Xiaomi’s rise comes from Apple’s typical August slowdown. With the iPhone 16 launch just around the corner, Apple is likely to bounce back strong. So, this battle for the #2 spot isn’t over yet!
What do you all think? Can Xiaomi hold onto this position, or will Apple reclaim it once the new iPhones hit the market? Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments!
