SOUTH EAST ASIA, 14 March 2025 – Sony has unveiled a groundbreaking display system featuring independent RGB LED control with high-density backlighting, offering individual control over red (R), green (G), and blue (B) primary colors. This innovation ensures enhanced color purity and a wide color gamut, making it ideal for large-screen displays.
The system allows each RGB color to emit light independently, resulting in vibrant and true-to-life color reproduction. Paired with Sony’s proprietary advanced backlight control technology, the system maximizes panel performance, ensuring precise color representation and light gradation across every corner of the screen. This makes it particularly well-suited for both film production and home viewing, where subtle gradations of color and light are crucial for narrative expression.

Building on years of experience with professional monitors for video production and BRAVIA reference monitors, Sony developed this system to meet the evolving demands of creators. Mass production is set to begin in 2025, with plans to integrate the technology into consumer televisions and displays for content creation.
Key Features of the New Display System:
1. Wide Color Gamut with Independent RGB LED Control:
- The system delivers high color purity, covering over 99% of the DCI-P3 color space and approximately 90% of the ITU-R BT.2020 standard.
- Independent RGB color emission ensures accurate and vibrant colors even on large displays.
2. Exceptional Picture Quality with Advanced Backlight Control:
- Optimized Color Volume: The independent RGB LEDs combined with Sony’s backlight control technology optimize wide color gamut performance across the screen, ensuring natural and detailed hues.
- Dynamic Power Allocation: The system allocates optimal power to each RGB channel based on the scene, ensuring vivid, detailed rendering even in scenes with single-tone colors.
- Peak Brightness: Capable of reaching over 4000 cd/m² peak brightness, this system achieves the highest color volume in Sony’s display history.
3. Wide Dynamic Range and Precise Gradation:
- High-speed, high-precision signal processing (96-bit bitrate) allows for the simultaneous expression of deep blacks and brilliant whites, ensuring accurate gradation in scenes with varying brightness.
- The system also overcomes the challenges existing OLED panels face in rendering moderate brightness and saturation, providing better control of color shift and brightness when viewed at an angle.
4. Accurate Color Reproduction:
- Dedicated processors and enhanced pixel correction technology prevent white clipping and black crushing, ensuring accurate and vivid color reproduction.
Sony is partnering with MediaTek, ROHM Co., Ltd., and Sanan Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. to develop the next-generation control processors and LED drive ICs for this system.
Through this cutting-edge technology, Sony continues to push the boundaries of visual expression, ensuring the future of entertainment remains true to the creator’s vision while expanding the possibilities for both film production and consumer experiences.
