Nokia G42 comes with Snapdragon 480+ and 50MP camera

Although it's still not nearly as straightforward as just having a battery and a removable rear cover, there's more to it!

Early this year, HMD Global introduced the Nokia G22, a low-cost phone that allowed for user repair. With the Nokia G42 5G, the company is presently carrying on this trend of repairability.

In a partnership with iFixit, HMD says the new phone is the company’s first 5G smartphone that can be repaired by the average user.

For the next five years, iFixit will continue to sell the display, battery, charging port, and back cover replacement parts. Being that you still need to use a pick tool to remove the back, this isn’t a replaceable battery in the conventional sense.

Apart from the emphasis on consumer repairs, this is a very typical low-cost Nokia phone. Expect a 6.56-inch 90Hz LCD screen with Gorilla Glass 3, a Snapdragon 480 Plus 5G CPU, 4GB to 6GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage, and a 5,000mAh battery with 20W wired charging rates. Thank goodness the phone also has an IP52 rating for splash resistance.

A 50 MP main camera and two 2 MP sensors (macro and depth) make up the modest triple rear camera system offered by the Nokia G42 5G. For selfies and video calls, the front of the device has an 8 MP camera.

Other noteworthy specifications include OZO 3D audio for recording and playback, Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi 6, NFC compatibility, etc.

Europe, the US, and the UK will all be able to purchase this newest Nokia device. The smartphone will be available in So Purple and So Grey hues.

Pricing and Availability

The base Nokia G42 6GB/128GB model, according to HMD, will cost $199 (~PHP 11024.50/€249). In several European nations, there is also a 4GB/128GB model available, but we lack pricing information for this model.
