Qualcomm seems to be cooking up something new in the Snapdragon 8 Gen series, but it’s not the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 that’s been buzzing around lately. Instead, whispers in the tech world hint at a possible lighter version of the current flagship, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.
Recently, a reliable source for leaks, Digital Chat Station, spilled the beans on a mysterious chip with the codename SM8635, shared on Weibo. While the official name remains under wraps, the codename strongly suggests its association with the Snapdragon 8 series. According to the leaked info, the chip packs a punch with a 2.9GHz ARM Cortex X4 core and an Adreno 735 GPU. The tipster even dropped a bombshell – an AnTuTu score soaring over 1.7 million. If these details hold water, it means the SM8635 might outmuscle the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in raw performance. So, our hunch is that it might be a lite version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
However, Roland Quandt, another renowned leaker, threw a curveball into the mix by revealing that Qualcomm has two similar chips in the works – the SM8635 and the SM7675. This revelation muddies the waters regarding where the SM8635 fits into the Snapdragon lineup.
The “SM7675” is said to be the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, touted as the most powerful chipset in the Snapdragon 7 series, according to previous intel from Digital Chat Station.
Although the chip’s identity is still shrouded in mystery, the rumor mill is buzzing about several smartphones gearing up to sport the SM8635. These include the Poco F6, initially expected to run on the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, the Redmi Note 13 Turbo, and an upcoming iQOO Neo-series phone. Stay tuned for the unfolding tech drama!
