MediaTek has officially announced its Helio G100 chipset, just eight days after the Tecno Camon 30S Pro, the first phone to feature it, made its debut.
The detailed specs show that the Helio G100 is almost identical to the Helio G99 in terms of CPU and GPU, with the key difference being its new support for 200 MP main cameras.
The MediaTek G100 is powered by an octa-core CPU, with two high-performance Cortex-A76 cores running at 2.2 GHz and six energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0 GHz. It is designed to be compatible with fast LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage, while supporting a maximum display resolution of 2,520 x 1,080 pixels
Compared to its predecessor, the Helio G99, which is a popular choice in mid-range LTE devices due to its affordability and solid performance, the G100 brings notable improvements. One of the most significant upgrades is its ability to support a single 200 MP camera, catering to the latest advances in mobile photography. It still offers dual-camera capabilities at 16 + 16 MP and can record 32 MP video at 30 fps, just like the G99, but the jump to 200 MP single-camera support marks a clear evolution in camera technology.
The new chip also introduces a feature called “Elevator Mode,” designed to quickly reconnect to cellular networks when you step out of places with no coverage, like tunnels or elevators. It also supports dual 4G SIMs with VoLTE and ViLTE for better call quality and video calling over LTE.
Since MediaTek is already shipping the Helio G100 to its customers, we can expect to see more phones featuring this chip hitting the market in the coming weeks and months.
