LG Electronics has made a bold move in advancing its AI webOS platform, unveiling a substantial investment as part of its future strategy at the recent webOS Summit 2024 in Incheon, South Korea.
The company announced a KR₩ 1 trillion (US$ 740 million) investment aimed at boosting the capabilities of its AI webOS ecosystem, which powers flagship products like LG’s renowned smart TVs. The platform already supports over 4,000 apps spanning entertainment, fitness, education, and gaming, and this investment signals LG’s commitment to expanding its reach and potential in these areas.
LG actively pursues its vision for the AI webOS platform by expanding the vast array of content and services available to users. The company plans to enhance AI webOS with around 4,500 games from popular cloud gaming services like GeForce NOW and Amazon Luna as part of this effort.
Additionally, LG has partnered with MediaTek and Razer to leverage Bluetooth Ultra-Low Latency (BT ULL) technology, significantly minimizing input lag when using a Bluetooth gaming controller. This innovative technology was showcased at the webOS Summit 2024, achieving an impressive latency reduction to as low as 1 millisecond.
LG has also rolled out webOS Pay to streamline purchases for users, making it easier and more direct to shop on their smart platform. This user-friendly payment service enhances the seamless, personalized shopping experience that LG aims to deliver.
At the summit, LG also introduced visitors to AI Concierge, a feature already available on LG TVs. Using voice recognition, search history, and user data, AI Concierge offers tailored app and viewing recommendations.
What’s particularly impressive is AI webOS’s ability to recognize different voices, allowing users to access their personalized Home Screen without manually selecting their profile. This thoughtful touch adds to the convenience and enjoyment of using LG smart TVs.
