Huawei is reportedly working on an ARM-based Kirin PC chip, with expectations for a launch this year. However, a recent tip indicates that the release has been pushed back to Q1 2025. Unfortunately, the source didn’t provide any additional details about the reasons for the delay.

The Huawei Kirin PC chip competes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X laptop processors and reportedly matches Apple’s latest M3 chip. If that’s the case, Huawei has some catching up to do, particularly when it comes to battery life. The new Snapdragon X processors use a 4-nanometer process, while the Apple M3 features an even more advanced 3-nanometer design.

For context, smaller transistors generally lead to better power efficiency. Huawei depends on SMIC for its semiconductor manufacturing, and recent reports suggest that SMIC can produce chips with a 5-nanometer process.

Additionally, early reports suggest that the Kirin PC chip will feature a unified architecture similar to Apple’s M-Series chips. This means that key components like the SoC and DRAM integrate into a single package, enhancing memory bandwidth and overall efficiency.

As of now, Huawei hasn’t officially confirmed any plans for the Kirin PC chip.

In related news, there are rumors that Huawei is developing a MateBook laptop powered by HarmonyOS, which could potentially debut alongside the Kirin PC chip.
