Since the iPhone 13 Series launched in 2021, Apple has reserved its 120Hz ProMotion display for Pro models, leaving standard iPhones stuck with 60Hz panels. But it looks like that’s about to change!
Just as the iPhone 16 models are hitting the shelves, chatter about next year’s iPhone 17 is already making waves. According to MacRumors, it looks like the standard iPhone 17 might finally come with a 120Hz display!
There’s talk of a slimmer version, possibly named the iPhone 17 Air, which could take the place of the Plus model and also come with a 120Hz display.
Meanwhile, the newer Pro models since the iPhone 14 can go all the way down to 1Hz, allowing for that always-on display feature. It’s still up in the air whether the non-Pro models will get this same capability or if they’ll stick to the usual 10-60-120Hz options.
Whatever the outcome, adding a 120Hz display is definitely a step in the right direction, especially since even budget Android phones are sporting this feature. It really doesn’t make sense for Apple to keep their non-Pro iPhones at 60Hz in today’s market.
While some folks argue that the smooth animations in iOS make the devices feel great, users are still missing out—especially considering the premium price tag that comes with iPhones.
