A couple of weeks ago, a leak showed what was thought to be the iPhone 17 Pro with a visor-style camera island. It turns out that wasn’t the Pro—it was likely the iPhone 17 Air (formerly iPhone 17 Slim).

The 17 Pro and Pro Max will have a larger visor design. Here’s a comparison of the 17 Air next to the 17 Pro Max:
Speculative renders: 17 Pro Max and 17 Air
Exclusive info from Front Page Tech, with renders by @Zellzoi, reveals the 17 Pro’s design. The Air has a single rear camera, meaning in 2025, Apple will have two phones with just one camera—the iPhone SE 4 is launching tomorrow.
Speculative renders: iPhone 17 Air
The iPhone 17 Air is replacing the Plus model this year. Despite early rumors of high prices, it’s expected to be affordable with a single camera and A19 chipset. It will be ultra-thin, at just 5.5mm at its thinnest point.
Speculative renders: 17 Pro – Silver and Space Black
For the Pro, Apple is maintaining the triangular camera layout but extending the camera island across the entire width. The new design resembles something Xiaomi might create, rather than Google.
The 17 Pro series will feature a 48MP sensor with a 5x periscope lens, an upgrade from the 12MP 5x on the 16 Pro series. The reason behind the oversized camera island remains unclear, but a redesign is overdue.
The series won’t be released until September, with the focus now on the upcoming iPhone SE and possibly new iPad Airs or iPad Pros featuring the Apple M4 chip.
