Intel’s new Core Ultra 200V processors are here, promising top-notch power efficiency for thin and light laptops. These are Intel’s first processors made by TSMC, using a 3nm compute tile and a 6nm platform tile. With this updated design, Intel says laptops with the Core Ultra 200V can deliver over 20 hours of battery life for productivity tasks.

The nine new Lunar Lake chips come in Core Ultra 5, 7, and 9 versions. Each features 8 CPU cores—4 performance (P-cores) and 4 efficiency (E-cores)—with 8 threads but no hyperthreading.

Intel claims you’ll save 50% more power compared to the outgoing Meteor Lake processors. The Lion Cove performance cores come with a 14% improvement over the ones in Meteor Lake while the Skymont efficiency cores double the performance of their predecessor.

The baseline Core Ultra 5 version features 4.5 GHz (P-core) and 3.5 GHz (E-core) clock speeds, 8MB L3 cache, 17W base power (8W minimum) and 37W max turbo power.

The Core Ultra 9 288V tops out with 5.1 GHz (P-core) and 3.7 GHz (E-core) speeds, 12MB L3 cache, 30W base power, and 37W max turbo power. It features 16/32GB of built-in LPDDR5x-8533 RAM, which you can’t upgrade but enhances power efficiency. The Lunar Lake chips also include Intel’s new Xe2 GPUs, offering up to 67 TOPS and a 1.5x performance improvement over the previous Xe GPUs.

The updated NPU in the Core Ultra 200V handles AI tasks with up to 48 TOPS. It supports PCIe 5, Thunderbolt 4, USB4, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and Gigabit Ethernet. Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, LG, MSI, and Samsung will announce new Lunar Lake laptops today, with sales starting on September 24.
