Interest in cryptocurrency is steadily growing in the Philippines. A 2025 Consensys survey shows that 96% of Filipinos are aware of crypto, and more than half intend to invest within the year. Yet awareness does not always lead to action. For many, the hesitation comes from one simple question: Where do I even start?
To answer that, GCash has launched the GCash beginner’s crypto guide, a free in-app educational resource available through GCrypto. Written and illustrated by Luis Buenaventura, Head of GCrypto and a long-time figure in the Philippine crypto space, the guide aims to simplify cryptocurrency through storytelling rather than technical jargon.
Instead of overwhelming users with charts and complex terminology, the guide grounds its explanations in everyday Filipino experiences—like inflation, budgeting, and saving for the future.
From Curiosity to Confidence
Divided into eight chapters, the guide begins by explaining why cryptocurrency was created in the first place. It connects Bitcoin’s origins to real-world economic issues, particularly inflation and the gradual erosion of purchasing power. By framing crypto as a response to financial challenges people already understand, the discussion feels more relatable.
From there, readers are introduced to Bitcoin’s growth and volatility. Rather than presenting crypto as a guaranteed opportunity, the guide emphasizes balance. Buenaventura highlights the principle of “high risk, high reward,” encouraging readers to set realistic expectations before investing.
Importantly, the book stresses financial fundamentals. It reminds users to build traditional savings first, diversify investments, and treat crypto as a complement—not a replacement—for long-term financial security.
Understanding the Tools and the Mindset
Once readers grasp the basics, the guide explores the practical side of investing. It explains how wallet apps work, what satoshis are, and how buying and selling crypto happens within an exchange.
Beyond Bitcoin, it introduces other digital assets such as Ethereum, Solana, stablecoins, and even high-volatility memecoins. However, the focus remains on responsible participation rather than hype.
The guide also addresses the emotional aspect of investing. It talks about moments of doubt, market swings, and the discipline required to think long-term. Ultimately, it brings the conversation back to purpose: crypto should serve real-life goals—whether that means supporting family, funding personal dreams, or celebrating financial progress responsibly.
“Our goal is to educate Filipinos on the responsible use of cryptocurrency, enabling them to take confident, informed steps into the future of finance,” Buenaventura said.
