The shadows are rising. Netflix has officially confirmed the production of a Korean live-action series based on the global phenomenon, Solo Leveling. The news has sent fans into a frenzy. That’s because Netflix cast fan-favorite actor Byeon Woo-seok in the lead role of Sung Jin-woo.
This beloved IP originated as a Korean web novel. It later expanded into a popular webtoon and anime series. Now, this global phenomenon is officially coming to life on Netflix.
From Weakest Hunter to Humanity’s Hope
The story of Solo Leveling follows Sung Jin-woo. Specifically, he is an E-rank Hunter—the lowest tier possible. As a result, he constantly risks his life for little reward. However, after a near-death experience, he gains a unique ability. He can see a game-like interface that only he can access. Through this, the system allows him to “level up” his strength and skills. As he grows in power, he becomes humanity’s unexpected hope. He must defend the world from monstrous threats emerging from mysterious Gates.
Byeon Woo-seok as Sung Jin-woo
Bringing the iconic protagonist to life is Byeon Woo-seok. Indeed, he is currently one of Korea’s most sought-after actors. Many know him for his standout performances in 20th Century Girl and the recent smash-hit Lovely Runner. In fact, with his fitting nickname “만찢남” (a man who walked straight out of a comic), many consider him the perfect choice for the role.
