Sony has partnered with Honda to unveil their first-ever electric vehicle, the Afeela, described as “a relaxing place like a living room.” The highly anticipated EV debuted at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas and is available for pre-order in California, with deliveries slated to begin mid-2026.
The Afeela is a groundbreaking, tech-heavy electric vehicle featuring self-driving capabilities. It is the result of a collaboration between Sony and Honda under their joint venture, Sony Honda Mobility (SHM). The Afeela aims to compete with luxury EVs such as Tesla, combining cutting-edge technology with premium features. It will be available in two trims: the entry-level Origin, priced at $89,900, and the high-end Signature at $102,900. The Signature model boasts advanced features like 21-inch wheels, additional screens for rear-seat passengers, and extra cameras. A standout feature of the Afeela is its impressive 300-mile range, but its true selling point lies in its autonomous driving capabilities.
Yasuhide Mizuno, Chairperson and CEO of Sony Honda Mobility, emphasized the company’s commitment to redefining travel experiences. “Afeela 1 can be called a buddy, combining advanced software with meticulously refined hardware to offer a safe, secure, and comfortable travel experience,” he said, highlighting the focus on evolving relationships through intelligent mobility.
The Afeela 1’s exterior boasts a minimalist design with hidden door handles, a flush front end, and a unique “Media Bar” on the bumper that displays messages, charge status, and even sports results. Inside, the car features a panoramic screen that stretches across the dashboard, paired with Sony’s signature surround sound and noise-canceling technology. The car also includes an AI assistant for natural conversations, a half-yoke steering wheel, and a digital rearview mirror.
Sony envisions the future of cars as “mobility spaces” on wheels, aiming to offer immersive entertainment while traveling. This concept positions the Afeela as a major player in the growing tech-driven EV market, competing with other visionary projects like Sharp’s futuristic campervan unveiled last September.
