Elon Musk unveiled the Tesla Cybercab prototype at the “We, Robot” event. This new robotaxi is designed for self-driving, featuring no steering wheel or pedals.
The vehicle boasts a futuristic design, featuring doors that open upward like butterfly wings. Inside, it’s cozy, accommodating just two passengers.
Musk highlighted that autonomous vehicles are projected to be 10 to 20 times safer than those driven by humans. He also mentioned that the cost of these rides could drop to as low as $0.20 per mile, especially when you consider that city buses in the U.S. charge about a dollar per mile.
Tesla aims to launch autonomous driving in California and Texas by 2025, with plans for the Cybercab to enter production by 2026. However, Musk did mention that it could be pushed back to 2027.
There are still concerns surrounding the Cybercab’s production since Tesla is focused on refining its full self-driving feature (FSD). For context, several incidents involving Tesla’s autopilot technology have occurred this year.
