Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X-series chipsets come in two versions: the Snapdragon X Plus, with a 10-core Oryon CPU, and the X Elite, which packs 12 cores. A new leak from Evan Blass has revealed key details about the upcoming 8-core X Plus version, set to debut in laptops announced at IFA Berlin. This slightly scaled-down version of the X Plus will feature an 8-core Oryon CPU and will power CoPilot+ notebooks, starting at around $800.
According to earlier reports, the new chip will offer a 3.4GHz boost for single-core tasks and a 3.2GHz boost for multi-core performance. Along with a reduced core count and lower clock speeds, the X Plus chip will include a scaled-down Adreno GPU with a rating of 1.7 TFLOPS (down from 3.8 TFLOPS). It will also come with LPDDR5X RAM and a total cache of 30MB (compared to 42MB on the full X Plus), and it will support up to three external monitors at UHD resolution and 60Hz (instead of 4K at 120Hz).
Despite these adjustments, the chip will still feature Qualcomm’s Hexagon NPU with 45 TOPS, along with the Always-Sensing ISP, Wi-Fi 7, and 5G support.
