OmniVision has just announced its latest 50MP OV50M40 sensor, designed to be incredibly versatile, whether it’s used as the main, ultra-wide, telephoto, or even front-facing camera in smartphones. This 0.61µm pixel CMOS image sensor fits into a 1/2.88-inch optical format and comes packed with features like 4-cell binning, video HDR, and an always-on function for motion detection while keeping power consumption ultra-low.
The OV50M40 sensor supports staggered HDR and single exposure dual analog gain (DAG) HDR technology, along with phase detection autofocus (PDAF) in both binned and full resolution modes. It also offers high-quality tele-crop zoom with 2x or 3x options, making it a versatile choice for various camera setups.
Built on OmniVision’s PureCel Plus-S stacked-die technology, the OV50M40 can capture full 50MP resolution images at 12 fps and 12.5MP images at 60 fps. It’s also capable of shooting 4K video at 60fps and 1080p video at 120fps, ensuring excellent performance for both photos and videos.
The company plans to make the OV50M40 available for OEM sampling in Q3 2024, with mass production set to begin in Q4.
