MediaTek has just unveiled the Dimensity 9400 flagship SoC, crafted using a state-of-the-art 3-nm process. This new chip is set to deliver significant performance improvements compared to its predecessor.
The Dimensity 9400 boasts impressive features, including a more powerful and efficient CPU and GPU, a new Image Signal Processor (ISP), and an upgraded 8th Gen Neural Processing Unit (NPU).
Built on TSMC’s advanced second-generation 3-nm process (N3E), it promises up to 40% better power efficiency, which means devices powered by this chip can expect longer battery life.
In terms of CPU architecture, the Dimensity 9400 features an ‘all big core design’ that includes one Cortex-X925 super-performance core running at 3.62GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores at 3.3GHz, and four efficiency-focused Cortex-A720 cores at 2.4GHz. MediaTek boasts that this setup delivers up to 35% faster single-core performance and a 28% improvement for multi-core tasks.
When it comes to memory, the Dimensity 9400 is a standout, being the first chip on the market to support up to 10.7 Gbps bandwidth with LPDDR5x RAM. It also features a 100% increase in L2 cache and a 50% boost in L3 cache, enhancing overall performance.
On the GPU side, it operates at 1612MHz with the Arm Immortalis-G925, delivering up to 41% faster peak performance, 40% improved ray-tracing capabilities, and 44% greater power efficiency.
The Dimensity 9400 features an 8th Generation NPU (NPU 890) that enhances performance for generative AI tasks while improving power efficiency by 35%.
Additionally, the Imagiq 1090 ISP allows for HDR video recording across the entire zoom range, enabling seamless transitions between zoom levels without any loss in quality.
Previous reports indicate that the vivo X200 Series and OPPO Find X8 will showcase the Dimensity 9400, with both expected to launch this October.
