Instagram latest update now lets users comment on their friends’ Stories, just like regular posts. However, the comments will disappear after 24 hours, just like the Stories themselves.
This new feature allows a more public way to interact with Stories. Users can choose to limit comments to mutual followers, open them to everyone, or disable them entirely.
As long as a Story is public and comments are enabled, anyone can see and leave comments. If you and a friend follow each other, you’ll notice a comment icon next to the “Send a message” box. Just tap it, type your comment, and you’re good to go!

Fortunately, for those who wants to set boundaries, they could disable the feature if they wanted to. The setting is located in the Comments tab > Story Comments.
Previously, a direct message is sent even when just reacting using an emoji to a Story and is visible only to the person who posted the Story.
With the feature being relatively new, it is uncertain whether Story Comments will remain after being archived.
