Huawei has officially launched the tri-fold Mate XT Ultimate internationally at a premium price of €3,500. This foldable smartphone comes with impressive features but also presents a notable flaw—an exposed section of the foldable panel near one of the hinges. To address potential concerns about damage, Huawei has announced that it will offer a free screen replacement for the first year, regardless of the cause of the damage. This assurance was confirmed by Huawei executives during the phone’s global debut in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Mate XT Ultimate features a tri-foldable LTPO OLED display developed by BOE. In its tablet configuration, the screen measures an expansive 10.2 inches diagonally, offering a substantial display area for tasks like media consumption or productivity. When the leftmost section of the display is folded back, the screen shrinks to 7.9 inches, offering a more compact form factor. When fully folded, the phone turns into a 6.4-inch smartphone, making it more portable without compromising on screen size when needed.
Under the hood, the Mate XT Ultimate is equipped with 16 GB of RAM and a hefty 1 TB of internal storage, making it a powerhouse for multitasking and storing large amounts of data. The phone is impressively thin, measuring just 3.6mm when unfolded, highlighting its engineering precision.
We had the chance to handle the Mate XT during its Malaysian launch event, and while the camera performance wasn’t the primary focus for Huawei’s design team, it still met high standards, which is reassuring given the device’s steep price tag. With its unique folding design and premium features, the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate is undoubtedly an innovative device that pushes the boundaries of foldable technology.
