Google has announced a new news partnership with The Associated Press (AP) to enhance the Gemini app. This collaboration aims to provide users with fresh, real-time information, improving the relevance of search results within the app.
The AP will supply a continuous feed of real-time news, helping users stay informed with the latest updates. Google highlights that this feature will be especially valuable for those seeking current events and timely information on Gemini.
Currently, Gemini can already reference news articles to provide answers to users’ questions about ongoing topics. By partnering with the AP, Google is focused on refining its products and services, ensuring more accurate and up-to-date data for users worldwide.
“AP and Google’s longstanding relationship is based on working together to provide timely, accurate news and information to global audiences,” says AP Senior Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Kristin Heitmann. “We are pleased Google recognizes the value of AP’s journalism as well as our commitment to nonpartisan reporting, in the development of its generative AI products.”
In other updates for the Gemini app today, Google reorganized the extension page at gemini.google.com/extensions into helpful categories. The new structure includes:
- Productivity: Google Workspace
- Travel: Google Flights, Google Hotels, and Google Maps
- Media: YouTube and YouTube Music
- Learning: OpenStax
This new organization will be particularly useful on Android, where users can currently explore 13 different Gemini Extensions. The clearer categorization makes it easier to find and access the tools that best suit your needs.
This week, Google rolled out a small but helpful change on Android. The suggestions “Ask about this screen” and “Ask about this PDF” have been simplified by dropping the word “this,” making the suggestion chip above the Gemini overlay cleaner and more intuitive. This update is now live for users with the latest Google app beta (version 16.1.38).
