The Geely EX5, also known as the Geely Galaxy E5 in China, has officially debuted in Thailand at the Thai Motor Expo, marking its entry into international markets. This electric SUV, a sibling to the upcoming Malaysian version, is being offered in two variants: the Pro priced at 859,000 baht (approximately ₱1,645,000) and the Max at 949,000 baht (around ₱1,786,000).
These promotional prices, available for the first 1,084 units to celebrate the 40th anniversary of distributor Thonburi Group, will increase after the initial stock runs out, with prices rising to 899,000 baht (₱1,690,000) for the Pro and 989,000 baht (₱1,864,000) for the Max.
Surprisingly, both the Pro and Max variants of the Geely EX5 are mechanically identical. Both variants have 218 PS, 320 Nm, and a 60.22 kWh battery, unlike the Malaysian eMas 7, which gets a smaller 49.52 kWh battery in the base model.
The Max is slightly heavier and slower (7.1s to 100 km/h) than the Pro (6.9s) and offers a shorter range (490 km vs. 495 km on NEDC). Both variants achieve about 410 km on the WLTP cycle. Regardless of which version you choose, the EX5 has a top speed of 175 km/h.
The Pro and Max Variants
Both the Pro and Max variants of the Geely EX5, with their shared battery pack, support up to 100 kW of DC fast charging, allowing a 30 to 80% charge in just 20 minutes. They also support up to 11 kW of AC charging, which takes about 6.1 hours for a full charge. Additionally, the EX5 offers a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function, supporting up to 3.3 kW.
In terms of standard equipment, both models come with full LED head- and taillights, an active grille shutter, 18-inch alloy wheels with Giti tyres, roof rails, keyless entry and start, dual-zone climate control, and power-adjustable front seats with ventilation and massage functions. The cabin also includes a 10.2-inch digital instrument display, a 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 50-watt Qi wireless charger, and a 16-speaker Flyme Audio sound system with headrest speakers. Six airbags are included for safety. Unlike the eMas 7, the EX5 comes with Apple CarPlay as standard.
The Max variant of the Geely EX5 features a panoramic sunroof, head-up display, “zero gravity” front passenger seat with ottoman, 256-colour ambient lighting, powered tailgate, and advanced driver assists like autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control. In contrast, the eMas 7 includes these features as standard.
There are five color options available: Snowy White, Frost Grey, Carbon Black, Moonlight Silver, and Turquoise Green. Thailand buyers can opt for an Ivory White interior (Max only), while Malaysians get Indigo Blue.
The full-spec Max costs around RM120,000, while the base Prime variant may cost less. In Philippine pesos, the Max likely costs around ₱1,800,000, with the base variant possibly priced lower.
