In essence, it allows crew members on the surface to track and monitor up to eight divers. It also lets them exchange preset messages.

Garmin is focused on creating essential products to help keep divers safe,” said Susan Lyman, Garmin Vice President. “The groundbreaking Descent S1 buoy adds game-changing communication, navigation, and safety capabilities.

Features for the Diver (Underwater)

For divers using a compatible Garmin dive computer, the S1 Buoy offers incredible situational awareness.

  • Find My Buoy: See the distance and direction back to the buoy. You can use it to navigate back to your surface point.
  • Diver-to-Surface Messaging: Send preset messages to the surface crew. You can inform them of your status, location, or need to ascend early.
  • Extended Diver-to-Diver Messaging: The buoy extends your messaging range. Now, divers can exchange preset messages up to 100 meters away.

  • Surface-to-Diver Messaging: Exchange preset messages with divers. This includes a “diver recall” if you need to end the dive early.
  • Diver Location Tracking: Track the approximate range to each diver in the network. You can monitor them up to 100 meters away.

Built for the Depths: Specs and Durability

The compact Garmin Descent S1 Buoy is rugged and connected. It weighs just 2 pounds and has an IPX8 water rating. Furthermore, its rechargeable battery provides up to 15 hours of life. It uses Wi-Fi® technology. This allows it to connect to the Garmin Dive app from up to 60 meters away.
