Apple has revealed an updated iMac this week, adding to a series of exciting announcements focused on its Mac lineup. This latest refresh gives the all-in-one desktop a boost with a new processor and some fresh color options.
The 2024 iMac now features Apple’s M4 chip with a 10-core CPU, delivering up to 1.7x the speed of the M1 and 1.3x faster than the M3 for tasks like Excel. The 10-core GPU also boosts graphics, performing twice as fast as the M1 and edging out the M3 in gaming. Apple supercharged the M4’s Neural Engine, making it run more than three times faster than the M1’s.
The iMac now comes with 16GB of system memory as standard, with options to expand to 24GB or 32GB. Storage options start at 256GB and go up to 2TB, giving plenty of room for flexibility.
The new iMac sticks with its familiar 24-inch 4.5K Retina display, but Apple now offers an optional nano-texture glass upgrade to reduce glare—a nice improvement over the standard glossy finish. This option is not available for the base model and costs an additional $200.
Connectivity also gets a boost with the new M4 chip. The higher-end model includes four Thunderbolt 4 ports with built-in Ethernet and supports up to two 6K 60Hz or one 8K 120Hz external displays. Meanwhile, the base model offers two Thunderbolt 4 ports, with optional Ethernet for $30, and supports one 6K 60Hz display.
The new iMac’s front-facing webcam has been upgraded to a 12MP 1080p model, now supporting Apple’s Center Stage feature. This lets the camera intelligently adjust its wide-angle view to keep people in the frame as they move. The Desk View feature uses the camera’s ultra-wide angle to show your desk with perspective correction. The triple microphone array and six-speaker setup remain the same as before.
Apple’s Magic Keyboard, Mouse, and optional Trackpad now feature USB-C instead of Lightning. As before, they’re color-matched to the iMac for a seamless look.
Apple’s new iMac colors offer subtle tweaks: blue is more aqua, purple more lavender, pink more bubblegum, green more jade, and yellow more lemon-like. The orange looks just a touch lighter, though the difference is minimal. Most color changes are on the back, with the front and stand largely unchanged.
The M4 Apple iMac starts at PHP 84,990 (8GB+256GB). You can see the availability here via Apple PH website.
