It’s only been a couple of weeks since the Pixel 9 family hit the shelves with Android 14 pre-installed, and you might be curious about Google’s plans for rolling out Android 15. According to a new rumor, Google is planning to release Android 15 to its Pixel devices in October, possibly around the middle of the month.
Interestingly, this comes despite reports that Google will release the source code for Android 15 as early as next week. In the past, Google would start the rollout to Pixels on the same day the source code dropped, but lately, the Pixel team has been taking extra time to ensure updates are fully ready before they go live.
This extra time allows Google to finalize its marketing for Pixel Drops, thoroughly test any changes, and squash any last-minute bugs. We saw a similar delay with last year’s Pixel release, and it looks like the same thing is happening again for similar reasons.
The same source suggests that the Android 15 update for Pixels is being held back to enhance its stability. Let’s hope the extra time until mid-October is enough to make that happen.
