MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Palo Alto Networks (NASDAQ: PANW), a global leader in cybersecurity, has launched a Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) Open API framework, helping organizations prepare for emerging quantum computing security threats. Developed in collaboration with six QRNG innovators, the framework promotes multi-vendor interoperability, allowing organizations to build resilient QRNG-based systems regardless of the underlying technology or vendor.
Rich Campagna, SVP of Product Management at Palo Alto Networks, stated, “Quantum safety requires collaboration across industries. The QRNG Open API is a critical step towards future-proofing cybersecurity against quantum computing risks.”
As quantum technologies converge with AI, ML, and classical supercomputing, protecting today’s systems is essential. QRNG uses quantum mechanics to generate truly random numbers, crucial for creating secure cryptographic keys. Combining QRNG with NIST’s post-quantum cryptography (PQC) standards enhances protection against future threats.
The QRNG Open API, available via Palo Alto Networks’ GitHub portal, can be embedded into any application. Later this year, it will be supported by the company’s Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) to enhance cryptographic functions.
The QRNG Open API framework, developed with partners Anametric, ID Quantique, Qrypt, Quantinuum, Quantropi, and Quside, will:
- Simplify QRNG integration across multi-vendor networks
- Maximize interoperability, promoting flexibility in selecting technologies
- Accelerate QRNG adoption through open collaboration
- Provide a standardized mechanism for accessing high-quality entropy from external QRNG platforms
Industry partners shared their thoughts:
- Fernando de la Iglesia, VP of Product at Quside: “The QRNG Open API initiative establishes guidelines that will help reduce barriers to adoption and advance quantum randomness in cybersecurity.”
- Kenny Huebsch, Director of Software Engineering at Qrypt: “A standardized approach is essential to drive broader adoption of quantum entropy.”
- Wil Oxford, CEO of Anametric: “The QRNG Open API is key to transitioning to post-quantum cryptography and ensuring secure digital infrastructures.”
- Duncan Jones, Head of Cybersecurity at Quantinuum: “This initiative helps ensure organizations remain secure while preparing for quantum threats.”
- Mike Redding, CTO at Quantropi: “Open standards will allow clients to adopt QRNG technologies with confidence.”
- Grégoire Ribordy, CEO of ID Quantique: “QRNG improves security today and in the future by integrating with existing solutions.”
