There’s a reason why the classics still get airplay on the radio—some designs just stand the test of time. HMD gets it—they’re reviving the iconic Lumia design, starting with the Skyline. The Lumia 1020, with its standout 41MP camera in a sleek circular island, remains a design pinnacle.
Now, HMD appears to be channeling that same design spirit for an upcoming model. The leaked silhouette reveals a centered circular island with four lenses and an LED flash—clearly inspired by the Lumia legacy.
This isn’t the HMD Hyper, which sports a rectangular camera island in the upper left corner, similar to the Skyline. And it’s not the other recently leaked HMD phone that shares a similar look. The Hyper targets the lower mid-range, while this new model seems destined for the higher-end market.
We don’t have much in the way of specs yet, aside from the camera count. The Skyline was HMD’s most ambitious phone camera-wise, being their first to feature a triple camera setup (excluding models with macro lenses). This new Lumia-inspired design could be HMD’s first device with a quad camera system.
While the Skyline’s 108MP+50MP+13MP setup is impressive on paper, the overall execution leaves something to be desired. Even so, it’s not quite on par with the flagship Lumias of the past. Although the Lumias may have lost their resolution crown years ago, the exceptional image processing that made them stand out—honed through years of innovation—still sets them apart. HMD has a steep climb ahead if they hope to compete with today’s camera leaders.
